The basis for this incredibly beautiful and popular stone is natural, violet Amethyst that has turned green due to coming in contact with a heat source. If already green when mined, it’s called Prasiolite and is extremely rare and expensive. It can be ‘encouraged’ to change colour in its raw form by ionising and heating after mining.
